And then I accidentally talked about my OCs and sex because Tiv is a terrible person.

So, to begin with, I'm leaving canon characters out of this. I am also leaving Fubuki, Kismet and Saori out of this because that's a whole 'nother essay. So with those removed, let us start at the most uncomplicated and work our way on up to the clusterfuck level, as one does.

Right off the bad, we have Yue, who is neither sexually repressed nor at all confused in her sexuality! Despite coming from a rather repressed culture, Yue's libido is an inherited trait among Izumi women (See also: Kaede, her mother), and so instead of being taught that her urges were shameful at the core, she was taught that not being able to control herself in public was unseemly and unladylike, so she had to be sure to take care of it in private so she wouldn't make a spectacle! It was why she was so initially tsundere flaily over Alex being himself, and what lingers is mostly just common sense that anyone with political aspirations really doesn't want to get caught having sex in public with a foreigner, even if she is married to him.

She tends to view the 'home' as a private place, most specifically her 'room', since that's where she can be whoever without having to put on her public face, and so everything there is fair game for shenanigans.

Now, by TYL (...20yl really), she's had two children, Tobias and Saya. Saya I'll get to a little later, but Tobias is also rather straightforward in his sexuality. He came out fairly early on, and while he doesn't broadcast it, all his friends know and probably most of Gekkoukan is at least aware that Tobias isn’t into girls. He isn’t as comfortable with sex, though! Partly because he’s a virgin, and also because he’s a terrible closet romantic. But he’s so busy helping other people/keeping Taiga alive he doesn’t really pursue anyone himself. It is a problem, but not one he’ll recognize as such, so he is the cold shower king.

Next on the scale of sexuality and hangups is Kohane! Kohane is actually legitimately bisexual, if male-leaning, and she’s also a terrible flirt. Being an idol means, though, that she wasn’t allowed to date except for calculated PR moves, and she is still seventeen so she’s consequently a little frustrated, or was, before she accidentally destroyed the stadium. While that trauma wasn’t really sexual in nature, she was so cracked by guilt and terrified she wasn’t really in a state to think about it, and just when she was starting to feel like a person again, she ended up in Atuin! Part of the reason she’s flirting around--and agreed to the date with Renn--is trying to fall back into a normal groove, but she’s still really vunerable and scared under it. In a way, romance and sex seem to her like something only normal people have, and she’s not a normal person, and wasn’t even before she was psychic.

Last in the list of relatively normal bullshit is Archer, who is a grown man with a woman who routinely sticks her hands down his pants whom he tsuns at. He doesn’t actually mind sex so much, but he was raised that sex is supposed to be a private thing, so he gets super-flustered in public because that’s not how it’s supposed to go! It doesn’t help that Stella is super-hot and he can’t just ignore the draping and move on with his zen because he’d tap that like the fist of an angry god. He doesn’t have much in the way of alone time, partly because being a pokemon trainer kind of means you permanently sacrifice your privacy (no such thing as private time with psychic-type pokemon around, they’ll know), and he just generally ignores it until Stella is all over him! It’s not that he doesn’t notice other people are hot, he’s just slow to warm up and he’s pretty much conditioned now to be kind of flustered around Stella to begin with.

Rider is where things start to get slightly weird, because he is a several centuries old man who’s first wife was a deer. He’s been asleep for so long that his sex drive kind of went to sleep with it, and he doesn’t care between boy or girl because he’s not really interested in either! But his body still occasionally has urges, and he lives with a girl who knows nothing about anything practical, so he tends to be very closed-off and private about the subject, because he’s honestly a little uncomfortable with the idea of being the one to teach her, or her only having been taught about sex in the context of giving prana, and he doesn’t want to ask about it because that’s. Rude. So he keeps quiet and closes doors and cleans up after himself on those rare special times, and it’s really more just a Thing That Happens then anything necessarily sexual-it’s sort of like eating, it’s something that happens now and then for regular body upkeep.

Saya is the other of Yue’s kids, as mentioned before, and she is a borderline sociopathic supergenius who sucks at feelings. Despite this, she some managed to wind up in a stable polyamorous relationship with her best friend and a stupid boyyy. She’s demisexual to the core, and because of the way she views the world, she doesn’t really get the idea that you can be physically attracted to someone you don’t like on anything more than academic level, or the idea that the accepted natural progression, at least to society, is physical attraction -> personal attraction -> genuine interest. Despite this, she’s still a tsundere, although it’d be painfully obvious to anyone who knows how she works that she likes Hiromu because she gets really drapey despite the tsun. She did inherit her mother’s sex drive, although not quite as...special about it since she’s keeping the whole thing quiet to avoid big brother-related homicide, and she views sex on a semi-clinical level; an enjoyable, intimate biological function, rather than anything that has any connection to shame.

Rodas, on the other side of the spectrum, was instilled with the proper amount of shame, both for liking both men and girls and for having these urges at all! Add to that he doesn’t really have the patience for courtship games, and you find where he flipped a table, and channeled all his sexual frustration into building things. While he is repressed, he will acknowledge that he does have these urges, and while he was working alone and not travelling, he masturbated pretty frequently to take the edge off. But now he’s traveling with Isa and a tiny golem and he’s too scared of being caught and having to explain himself to bother, which leads to him cultivating a very careful state of ignoring any sexual stimulus. It’s a very specific, sarcastic kind of zen.

Finally, Riku ends up being a case of weird detachment. It turns out, going through puberty when you’re stuck in a tower watching people do awful shit to each other sucks even more than regular puberty, and while Riku isn’t completely turned off the idea of sex, it sort of scared her for a long time, because a lot of times the people she was supposed to be finding were up to really horrible activities and she can’t unsee that. She knows what she’s seen isn’t the whole of what it is, but with no contact or really any options to explore it for herself unless she started actively looking, she just sort of...not repressed but didn’t do anything about the fact she was growing into all these weird feelings! She didn’t stop seeing things, because her power sort of sucks that way, so she was exposed to all different kinds of activities and kinks and sexualities played out in front of her, without really being sure of her own. In a way, she developed an idea of what she did and didn’t like without really connecting it to herself, and it remained detached until she was out of the tower and actually out and experiencing the world. Because she was detached, she’s become super-sensitive to touch, as much as she likes being able to actually touch things like fluffy pillows, and she’s really acutely aware of people’s presence near her. It turns out, ignoring urges for ten years doesn’t actually help, so now she’s dealing with the fact she’s actually attracted to people and would kind of like to bang them and what that means, and as curious as she is she doesn’t want to ask questions, because Riku’s honestly embarrassed that she doesn’t know these things. Plus the only person she could really ask is Takako and that is just not going to help that these feelings and sensations scare her a little bit. She’s aware it’s a thing that’s supposed to feel good and can be a good thing, it’s just...difficult to not be nervous.
